Peach Bowl 2022: Georgia Bulldogs’ ready to play the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff at the 2022 Peach Bowl. The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is a College Football Playoff semi-final this season and it kicks

WATCH Peach Bowl Game Live: Ohio State vs Georgia

off Dec. 31 from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. The game will be broadcast on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. ET. The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (13-0) square off against the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) after Georgia chose to play in the Peach Bowl. Traditionally, the Peach Bowl is a matchup between two at-large teams. This page will focus on Peach Bowl betting odds, matchup analysis, and bowl history.

Georgia is a favorite over Ohio State in the Peach Bowl with a spot in the National Championship on the line. This number opened at Georgia -6.5 and hasn’t moved, with a key figure of -7 butting up on it. Should that number hit or cross -7, that represents a 17% shift in implied win rate highest of any single number in college football. The over/under for this game is set at points.

Players like Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington always present matchup nightmares for opposing defenses, but especially against Ohio State, who lacks a go-to coverage linebacker or bigger box safety. The Buckeye defense was pulverized by big plays against Michigan, a similar offensive system.

In the most usable tape for Georgia struggles this season, the Bulldogs were hurt by Missouri’s off-script breakdowns in the secondary. While Heisman finalist CJ Stroud has a myriad of downfield threats to throw to, he’s not a strong off-script QB. He’s also one the least mobile of the recent Ohio State quarterbacks. When Stroud faces pressure, the play is usually over.

Of the two possible teams Georgia was going to play in the semifinal (Ohio State, TCU), Ohio State was unanimously agreed upon to be the team with the better chance to win this game. Though conservative coaching kept the Buckeyes from beating Michigan and reaching the Big Ten Championship game in each of the last two seasons, their pure talent is undeniable.

Marvin Harrison Jr. might be the most talented receiver Georgia will face this season– even moreso than Biletnikoff winner Jaylin Hyatt. The Buckeyes match the offensive firepower of Tennessee, but with a more talented and capable defense. In college football, talent goes a long way.

On the flip side, the Georgia offense was in hot water against a strong Missouri defensive line. Easier said than done against a terrific Georgia OL, but it’s a unit that can be beat. Players like JT Tuimoloau and Zach Harrison will need to beat one-on-one blocks to get to Bennett early.

Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will miss the Peach Bowl and enter the 2023 NFL Draft, he announced Monday on social media. Here’s what you need to know.

Smith-Njigba was a five-star prospect out of Rockwall High School in Texas. He committed to the Buckeyes over Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ole Miss.

Sidelined by a hamstring injury most of this season, Smith-Njigba hasn’t been able to build on a standout sophomore season that saw him lead the Buckeyes in catches. While he is average from a size/speed perspective, Smith-Njigba is a polished route runner with strong tracking skills and instincts after the catch. He will be a slot weapon in the NFL for a long time.

Nothing really changes for the Buckeyes. Smith-Njigba played only 60 snaps this season and caught just five passes for 43 yards. Ohio State had to adjust its offense early in the season but has found its footing with a receiving trio of Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka and Julian Fleming. Ideally, the Buckeyes would’ve had Smith-Njigba for the national championship run, but his absence doesn’t change Ohio State’s formula. In many ways, this news was expected.

Peach Bowl Live

Peach Bowl Live: The semifinals for the College Football Playoff take place on Dec. 31 this year, with the Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl hosting the matchups. Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will not play in the College Football Playoff Peach Bowl semifinal vs. No. 1 Georgia after missing much of the season with a lower-body injury, the school announced on Monday. Smith-Njigba will begin preparations for the 2023 NFL Draft.

I want to thank Jaxon for all he has done for our Ohio State program,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said in a statement. “He has had such a major impact here in Columbus, on and off the field, in a relatively short period of time. We all know he has a very bright future ahead of him and we all support him as he moves forward with his career.”

Smith-Njigba put together one of the great seasons in program history during a breakout sophomore campaign in 2021; his 95 catches for 1,606 yards broke both program records, and his 347-yard performance against Utah in the 2022 Rose Bowl also stands as an Ohio State record.

Smith-Njigba left the No. 4 Buckeyes’ season opener against Notre Dame with a hamstring injury. He appeared in only two more games wins against Toledo and Iowa while trying to recover from the injury. Ultimately, he was unable to return for most of the season.

Ohio State missed Smith-Njigba’s playmaking ability out of the slot this season, especially during a painful 45-23 loss against No. 2 Michigan. However, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud still has plenty of weapons to work with heading into the College Football Playoff. Top receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka both cleared the 1,000-yard plateaus after their teammate went down while former five-star prospect Julian Fleming also emerged as an option. The 15 bowl practices should also give some of Ohio State’s young receivers including four true freshmen who were top-151 recruits a chance to catch up in time to play Georgia.
